Stories, Imagination and Confidence: Giving Children Safe Places to Explore

Last updated 7 October 2026

Stories give children a safe place to rehearse being brave, kind and curious. Inside an imaginary adventure, a child can face a small challenge, help a creature in need or make a decision — and discover, in the safety of the story, that these qualities were in them all along.

Children already have these qualities

We don't believe stories install confidence, kindness or courage into children. Children already possess these qualities — they're developing every day. What stories offer is opportunity: a gentle, imaginary situation where curiosity, helpfulness or bravery is exactly what's needed.

That's why Booshy Tales adventures are built around moments where kindness, curiosity, courage and imagination naturally matter — helping a lost creature home, solving a gentle problem, choosing to be brave for a friend.

Why imaginary challenges feel safe

A challenge inside a story carries no real-world risk. A child can explore what it feels like to be scared and carry on anyway, or to help someone and feel the warmth of it — all from the safety of a parent's lap or their own bed.

Because Booshy Tales stories are calm and low-stimulation by design, these moments never tip into fright. There are no jump-scares and no villains that linger — just gentle challenges with warm resolutions.

Letting the story do the work

None of this needs to become an explicit lesson. Stories can simply create situations in which curiosity, kindness, courage, creativity and choice naturally matter. Our approach is simple: tell wonderful stories, give children real choices inside them, and leave room for them to explore.
